Name: Dorothy Steele
Current Locale: Portland, Oregon
Primary Medium: Ceramics
Dorothy Steele has participated in many retail craft fairs, juried shows (including juried showing at the Contemporary Crafts Museum & Gallery, Portland), and wholesale craft markets on the East Coast. She is an active member of the Oregon Potters Association.
Currently Steele's work focuses on shapes and textures from ferns, leaves, rocks, hand-crocheted doilies, and other found objects. She presses these textures into slabs of porcelain, creating organic pots that come to life in glazes of green, blues, reds, and deep purple.
"I have always seen clay as organic in substance and form, and
have been drawn to the earth, nature, and it's colors. It is out of this
core inspiration that I create my pottery."
~ Dorothy Steele
